The City of Lacey endorsed a $75,000 investment from the Port of Olympia to support Lacey MakerSpace, City Manager Rick Walk announced in a statement on Thursday, July 17.

Walk stressed that such backing “builds stronger, resilient communities” by providing tools and space for ideas to evolve into small businesses.

The Lacey MakerSpace, as shared by Walk, now draws innovators from multiple South Puget Sound counties and fosters a regional innovative hub for entrepreneurs, artists, manufacturers and inventors.

The port’s three-year investment is expected to fuel collaboration and boost workforce development, business incubation and equitable economic opportunity.

“Their collaboration marks a significant investment in the South Sound’s economic future, advancing shared goals of workforce development, supporting small businesses, and promoting community prosperity,” said Walk, adding widespread partnerships are key to economic progress.

Simultaneously, the Lacey MakerSpace launched two scholarships made possible by city support, one each from the City of Lacey and City of Olympia, to empower creative development and hands-on learning opportunities.

“If you haven’t been to the Lacey MakerSpace, I encourage you to stop by and see innovation in action,” Walk said.

To apply for the City of Lacey or City of Olympia scholarship, interested individuals can visit the Lacey MakerSpace’s official website.
