Students and organizations from Olympia and Lacey were recognized at the Washington Association of School Administrators (WASA) Honorary Awards, which highlight significant contributions to kindergarten through 12th grade education in Washington.

Three student leaders received the Student Leadership Award: Elijah Joslyn from Avanti High School, Jack Flores from Capital High School and Shruthi Lingam Nattami from Olympia High School.

“The WASA Student Leadership Award recognizes students who lead initiatives that promote inclusivity, access, and social justice in their school and community. Recipients demonstrate strong collaboration, integrity, and a commitment to inspiring others,” stated the Educational Service District (ESD) 113 on its website.

The Community Leadership Award was also given to Katy Johansson, Olympia Education Foundation at the Olympia School District, Boys and Girls Club of Thurston County at North Thurston Public Schools and Griffin School Foundation from Griffin School District.

“The Community Leadership Award goes to community members and organizations that make outstanding contributions to education. Recipients demonstrate leadership, cooperation with local school districts, and a sustained history of service that directly benefits students,” stated ESD 113.

Other community leaders and organizations from Centralia, Winlock, Hoquiam and Ocosta school districts also earned the recognition.

ESD 113 coordinates with WASA for the awards process, with the ceremony held on May 20. Superintendents selected the award recipients.
