The new commissioner will sit as one of the eight commission members tasked to lead in creating programs for the city’s historical conservation. The commission includes seven general members plus a youth representative. Each member agreed to serve a three-year term – and there’s a two-term limit. With this, the new member will continue to serve the commission until Sept. 13, 2023.

Those interested in applying may submit their applications along with a letter of interest and resume until Fri., Nov. 5, 2021, at 5 p.m. To learn more, applicants may reach Lacey Department Assistant Brandon Carter at 360-413-4387 or bcarter@ci.lacey.wa.us.

New museum update

Aside from creating programs to raise awareness of the importance of historical conservation, the commission also works in partnership with the Lacey Museum’s staff to oversee operations and collections.

As an update to the Lacey Museum & Cultural Center, the city partnered with the State of Washington Department of Ecology (ECY) to clean-up the project area. It had previously been an industrial site. The city had also received a Washington State Historical Society grant to begin Phase 3 of the project.

Located at 5700 Lacey Boulevard SE, the museum will be a part of the city’s Depot District which will connect Lacey’s past, with its historical museum to the present which includes a community gathering area complete with a train-themed playground, picnic tables, and restrooms.

More details about the new Lacey Museum are in the article linked with this story.
