Man allegedly assaults good Samaritan, kicks Olympia officer

A Rainier man was charged with a felony and a gross misdemeanor after allegedly assaulting a stranger who offered to help him and later kicking an Olympia police officer.

Cade Arlington Dausener, 37, was charged with assault in the third and fourth degree by the Thurston County Prosecuting Attorney on November 28.

Dausener was arrested on November 22 after a reported assault on the 2200 block of Eastbay Drive NE.

A Renton man told police that he thought Dausener needed help. When he offered help, Dausener jumped up to the window of the man’s truck and “started grabbing and then striking” him in the face, the victim told the police. He was hit in the left cheek but did not seek medical attention. A witness saw the interaction and called law enforcement.

Police found Dausener walking southbound on East Bay Drive NE and said he was “agitated and yelling.” The suspect walked away from one officer and raised his middle finger at another.

The subject “stopped walking but was uncooperative with my verbal commands,” said a reporting police officer. Dausener stopped walking after the officer told him to “stop or he would be tased.” He eventually got down on his knees, allowing police to handcuff him.

As he was being escorted to a police vehicle, Dausener tried to pull away from officers. Police used various compliance techniques on the suspect, who “continued his behavior and appeared unaffected.”

While undergoing a search at the patrol vehicle, Dausener raised his right leg and kicked an officer in the shin, causing a sharp pain, according to the police report.

Officers then sat Dausener on the ground and the suspect was placed in a WRAP restraint system and then he was put into the back of the vehicle.

He was booked into the Thurston County Jail for third- and fourth-degree assault. The involved officer’s body cams recorded the incidents, and the videos were submitted for evidence.
