A man previously banned from all Lowe’s stores was arrested on Jan. 3 after returning to the same store location, where he allegedly committed multiple thefts.
According to a Lacey Police Department (LPD) police report, officers responded to a call from a Lowe’s employee at their store in the 5600 block of Corporate Lane SE around 1:51 p.m.
Store loss prevention staff identified the suspect as Bhavjit Somal, who had been banned from Lowe’s properties following a theft incident in June 2024.
According to the store employee, the suspect had stolen approximately $3,000 worth of merchandise during multiple incidents of theft.
According to the employee, the latest theft was on Dec. 30, 2024, when the suspect and another suspect, Avtar Buttar, allegedly stole a Honda generator by cutting open a secured storage cage and loading the item into a white BMW sedan with no license plates.
When officers arrived at the store on Jan. 3, they found the 39-year-old suspect inside and arrested him without incident.
A search of the suspect revealed drug paraphernalia and tools commonly used to disable security devices.
The suspect first denied his involvement in the December theft, but he admitted to the crimes when shown surveillance footage.
“He (the suspect) advised that he was stealing the items because of his drug usage. He said he wants to get off drugs and turn his life around,” LPD stated in the police report.
Somal was booked on charges of second-degree burglary, second-degree theft and possession of drug paraphernalia.
