A man has been arrested for allegedly selling drugs, which caused the death of a 16-year-old boy in December 2024.
Son Nguyen, 33, was taken into custody on Jan. 6 by Olympia Police Department (OPD) detectives with assistance from the Thurston County Narcotics Task Force and SWAT team.
He faces charges of controlled substance homicide, unlawful possession of a firearm, and possession with intent to deliver narcotics while armed.
The arrest followed an investigation into the teen’s death on Dec. 19, 2024.
According to police, the boy’s mother found him in his room stiff and having difficulty breathing.
Despite lifesaving efforts by emergency responders, the teen died at St. Peter’s Hospital on the evening of Dec. 19, 2024.
A toxicology report revealed fentanyl, amphetamines, and methamphetamine in his system.
Detectives identified Nguyen as the alleged supplier of the drugs after the victim’s family provided key evidence, including text messages, surveillance footage, and payment records.
Video showed a silver Toyota Prius arriving at the victim’s home the afternoon of the incident, with the teen approaching the car to make a transaction.
Nguyen was linked to the vehicle, and a Cash App account was used to make the payment.
During a search of Nguyen’s residence and two vehicles, police seized narcotics, drug paraphernalia, firearms, ammunition, and equipment used for drug sales. The narcotics included marijuana, psilocybin, fentanyl and amphetamines.
Nguyen’s underage son was also arrested and charged with unlawful possession of firearms and possessing weapons on school property.
The boy, a student at North Thurston High School, had been seen driving the Toyota Prius, which contained firearms.
