A Lacey Police Department (LPD) officer arrested a man after he was seen allegedly using drugs at a bus stop in 4700 block of Yelm Highway SE on Monday, Jan. 20.

According to the information released through the LPD's social media, the officer observed the individual using drugs in plain view as people, including children, passed by.

Upon approaching the man, the officer found him holding a piece of foil, a lighter and a small plastic bag containing a white substance.

The man, later identified as Michael J. Lubbers, admitted to using the drugs, which he said was fentanyl, that he claimed to have found on the ground.

A search of the man’s backpack revealed additional drug paraphernalia, including a pipe allegedly used for methamphetamine.

The 38-year-old individual was booked into jail on charges of possession of a controlled substance and use of drug paraphernalia.

LPD is urging the public, who knows someone struggling with drug abuse, to contact Northwest Resources at (360) 918-8336, Capital Recovery at (360) 357-2582, or Olympic Health & Recovery Services at (360) 754-1338 for support.
