A couple fighting in downtown Olympia yielded a baggie of crystal methamphetamine for Olympia Police on Sunday.

At 10:38 p.m. on April 18, Erica Smith, 38, called Olympia Police claiming that her boyfriend, Collins Williams, 38, broke out the window of her vehicle and assaulted her near the intersection of Legion Way SE and Franklin St SE. Smith told Olympia Police that Williams was on foot, and she would not provide any details regarding the incident to police until Williams was captured, fearing for her safety.

At 11:18 p.m., Olympia Police received an anonymous call stating that a male and female were in a “heated argument” near the Old School Pizzeria on 108 Franklin St SE. Olympia Police contacted both Williams and Smith at the 300 block of Franklin St SE.

Smith said that the argument with Williams at the Olympia Inn on Capital Way started over her suspecting that he was cheating on her after 6-8 months of dating. Smith got into her car and Williams threw his backpack, cracking the passenger side of her vehicle’s front windshield. Smith said she continued to follow Williams in her car, with Williams remaining on foot, and Williams broke the passenger rear tail light to Smith’s vehicle.

Smith drove into Generation Credit Union’s parking lot at 720 Capitol Way S. Williams approached her car, hitting her three times in the face and shoulder with the backpack. Smith grabbed the backpack, pulled it inside her car, and Williams left as she called the police.

Smith told Olympia Police that she located Williams near the Intercity Transit bus center downtown, attempting to speak to Williams. During the argument, Smith dropped her cell phone, which Williams picked up and threw to the ground, causing the phone glass to shatter.

According to Smith, Williams said that he would “bash her head in.”

Williams denied the allegation to Olympia Police, stating that “nothing had happened.”

Smith told Olympia Police that Williams had assaulted her 15 times in the past, including April 17, 2021 in Centralia, but she did not report it.

Once Williams was arrested for Assault 4 Domestic Violence and Property Damage Domestic Violence, Smith provided Olympia Police with Williams’ backpack, which was logged into the Olympia Jail as Williams’ property.

Olympia Jail staff located a plastic baggie with white crystal methamphetamine inside Williams’ backpack.
