A Yelm man has been found guilty of murdering his wife nearly two years ago, the Thurston County Prosecuting Attorney announced Wednesday.

On Tuesday, May 3, Michael Anthony Brower was convicted of second-degree murder domestic violence armed with a gun and while in the presence of a child, over his killing of his wife, Tuyen Dang Ngoc Brower.

The Prosecuting Attorney said that Thurston County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a 911 call from the Brower residence on the night of May 20, 2020.

Dispatchers at the time noted a history of domestic violence and mental health calls made from the family’s Yelm address, as well as a previous protective order between Brower and Tuyen.

On the night of the crime, the Browers’ four young children were awakened from sleep by an argument between their parents, according to the Prosecuting Attorney.

The eldest child came out of her room but was ordered to return inside by her father. After the daughter went back into her room, Brower fatally shot Tuyen in the chest.

Charges were filed against Brower the day after the murder. The judge also ordered that the defendant be held without bail.

Sentencing in the case is expected in August.

“We are grateful to have justice for the victim and her children,” Deputy Prosecuting Attorneys Jennifer Lord said in a statement.
