Six individuals, including some minors, were taken into custody after allegedly getting involved in a hit-and-run and later fleeing from law enforcement. One adult male was released from jail after 21 hours.

The Thurston County Sheriff’s Office (TCSO) said deputies were dispatched to a hit-and-run at Maytown Road and Case Road on Wednesday, Aug. 16.

The victim chased the suspects up to Tilley Road, where Sheriff’s deputy observed a Kia sedan driving “recklessly” and passing cars, TCSO said on social media. The deputy initiated a pursuit on suspicion of driving under the influence (DUI).

The pursuit was initiated down 93rd Avenue. The deputy conducted an immobilization maneuver on the Kia sedan, forcing some of the suspects to flee on foot. Deputies and Tumwater police set up a perimeter patrol while Sheriff Derek Sanders, another deputy, and a K9 pursued the suspects.

The K9 led authorities to a fuel pump business where three suspects were found hiding in a Honey Bucket porta potty.

The suspects surrendered, and the Kia sedan was found to be stolen. A total of six individuals believed to be from King and Pierce Counties, were booked for a range of crimes, including DUI, hit and run, possession of a stolen car, and minor in possession, TCSO said.

Thursday, August 17, TCSO said that one adult man who was booked into the Thurston County Jail was released by the Thurston County Superior Court on a promise to return to court without the requirement of posting bail.

The suspect was in jail for about 21 hours on charges of eluding a police vehicle, hit and run, unlawful possession of marijuana with intent to deliver, and possession of a stolen vehicle.
