A motorist was shot and killed in a road rage incident in Lacey on Friday evening, Dec. 19.
Lacey Police Department officers responded to a report of road rage with shots fired at 8:51 p.m. on Friday in the 2400 block of Marvin Road NE.
"Officers arrived on scene and located a 48-year-old male with a gunshot wound in the roadway. Lifesaving measures were provided to the male until (the) Lacey Fire (Department) arrived on scene and took over. Sadly, the male was declared deceased at the scene. Officers located the 24-year-old male reporting party nearby, who admitted to being the shooter," said the police department in an incident report.
"Witnesses stated that the two vehicles were involved in a road rage incident, which culminated in the victim stopping and exiting his vehicle and the two males exchanging words before the suspect fired one shot from inside his vehicle. The suspect then called 911."
The unidentified suspect was later interviewed by detectives, and then transported and booked into Thurston County Corrections Facility for murder in the second degree.

Another useless firearm fatality. There is no discussion on the wide availability of hand guns and the astronomically kill rate in the US compared to the rest of the world.

We need more personal accountability! America seems to forget sometimes that there is someone who did the killing (since weapons don’t kill people without human intervention) and THAT person bears 100% per responsibility, not the device that was used to kill. You are NEVER going to get rid of all killing weapons. Ever.

Remove guns from America and give free reign to several million hardened criminals who will attack folks they know to be defenseless. The only thing keeping them in check is the thought a potential victim might be armed. Allowing that to happen because of crimes of this sort incredibly short-sighted.

I support stricter gun laws, including the right of people to sue gun-makers in certain circumstances, notably when a gun accidentally kills a child. Here are 2023 data about gun deaths in America:
Suicides: 27,300 deaths (58% of the total) were suicides by firearm, a record high.
Homicides: 17,927 deaths (38% of the total) were gun-related homicides. This number decreased by 14% from its peak in 2021.
Other causes: The remaining deaths involved law enforcement (604), were accidental (463), or had undetermined circumstances.
Homicides are clearly a problem, but in 2023 there were nearly 41,000 traffic deaths in the US, despite the fact that we have countless traffic controls. Last night on I-5 I was going the limit of 60 mph, yet many other drivers were rapidly passing me on either side likely going 80 mph or more. Countless law-abiding citizens don't obey the laws.

I have two pistols that have never leaped out of their concealment in my home and killed anyone by themselves.
So, sue me for having them and I'll laugh all the way to SCOTUS.
