Motorcyclist gets a break, then ends up in jail for reckless driving

A man was taken into custody after a failed effort to evade law enforcement authorities ended with his motorcycle stuck in the woods.

The incident started after a Thurston County Sheriff's Office (TCSO) sergeant attempted to stop the unidentified motorcyclist for an alleged reckless driving violation in Tumwater on Feb. 25.

"The rider fled and a pursuit was initiated. The rider eventually tried (to) flee into a wooded area but got stuck and attempted to flee on foot. Two TCSO sergeants gave chase," said Sheriff Derek Sanders in a social media post.

"The sergeants pretended they had a K-9 with them (no dog actually on scene) and began barking at the suspect, who eventually fell down and was taken into custody. "

The incident happened a few days after the same motorcyclist was stopped by Sanders for riding down the shoulder along Rich Road without a helmet.

"The rider stated he just purchased the bike and was on his way home in Tumwater. I opted to give the rider a break, and in exchange the rider agreed to have a friend bring his helmet to him before he finished his commute home," said Sanders in the social media post.

The motorcyclist was later booked into Thurston County Corrections Facility for reckless driving. The motorcycle was impounded.

Unfortunately some people don’t learn from their mistakes, even when given a second chance by law enforcement. I hope he gets the lesson after a few days in jail & losing his motorcycle. Maybe he’ll learn from his parents’ further advice (I assume he is an immature youth). Of course, if his life is complicated by other issues—substance abuse, ADHD, for example—maybe he’ll get those attended to at last! That would keep the rest of us safe from his youthful indiscretions.
