A monthslong investigation into an alledged drug trafficking operation resulted in the arrest of five people.
The Thurston County Narcotics Task Force (TNT), in a joint operation with the City of Lacey Police Department Community Resource Unit (CRU) and Olympia Police Department detectives made the arrests last week. The suspects were not identified.
"Evidence developed during the investigation indicates the group was distributing controlled substances, cannabis, and vape products to children as young as 13 years old in Lacey," said Thurston County Sheriff Derek Sanders in a social media post.
"During surveillance and investigative operations, TNT detectives observed a high volume of juvenile traffic consistent with suspected drug distribution activity. Detectives documented more than 150 juveniles entering the residence on an average school day."
As a result, the task force served a search warrant on Feb. 11 at a residence in the 4000 block of College Street SE in Lacey. During the search, law enforcement personnel seized evidence of alleged distribution and controlled substances.
The seized subtances included cocaine, psilocybin mushrooms, psilocybin candy bars and approximately 500 cannabis-related items packaged and marketed in a manner consistent with youth targeting, as well as scales and addtional distribution-related items.
Law enforcement personnel also seized scales and additional distribution-related items, more than $26,000 in cash and multiple firearms, including an AR-style pistol
"The investigation remains active. TNT and our partners are committed to disrupting drug trafficking organizations that endanger community safety — particularly those involving the distribution of controlled substances to minors with the presence of firearms," said Sanders in the social media post.
"TNT extends its appreciation to the City of Lacey Police Department and their Community Resource Unit and Olympia Police Department for their work in support of community safety. We are also grateful for our community members who promptly reported suspicious activity."
