New Lacey Museum hosting tours ahead of official opening

History junkies, local families and anyone curious about Lacey’s past are invited to join the pre-opening tours of the new Lacey Museum beginning  on Thursday, Dec. 4.

The new museum, located at Bell Towne Center site at 4160 6th Ave SE, Suite 101, is hosting one-hour appointments that include a guided tour, independent browsing time and opportunities to chat with museum staff. 

The City of Lacey announced on Thursday, Nov. 13, that the official opening is forthcoming.. 

“Explore Lacey’s history through new exhibits and never before seen artifacts in an exclusive sneak peek of the new space!” the city said. 

Private tours are open to adults and youths ages 12 and older. Guests ages 15 and under must be accompanied by an adult. 

Preregistration is required. Groups of up to eight guests may register for each appointment. 

According to the city, the new Lacey Museum features Lacey’s history and South Sound’s stories through curated exhibits, guided tours, history talks and other educational programs. The research center also stores a “a wealth of information and thousands of historic photographs” that visitors can review. 

To secure a slot visitors must book an appointment through the city’s website.

    Still no city history museum in Olympia. The new private one is great, but why no municipal museum?

    OLY AHA has recently opened on the corner of State and Columbia. It is run by the Olympia Arts and Heritage Alliance. There is one room dedicated to the history of Olympia. Go check it out! Its winter hours are Friday afternoon; 10:00 to 4:00 on Saturday; and Sunday afternoon.
