New Lacey Museum seeking volunteers to serve as gallery hosts

The City of Lacey is looking for enthusiastic people to serve as volunteer gallery hosts for the new city museum.

"People who enjoy welcoming visitors, sharing local history, and helping create positive experiences for (museum) guests are encouraged to apply as soon as possible," said the City of Lacey in announcing the call for volunteers.

How to apply

Interested parties can submit an application online.

"Interviews are going to take place the week of (Jan. 5) in preparation for the (museum’s) opening at its new location, 4160 6th Ave. SE, Suite 101, Lacey," the city said.

Additional interview opportunities will be available after the museum opens.

Gallery host

The main responsibilities for gallery hosts include greeting visitors, staffing the museum’s front desk, sharing information about exhibits and programs, conducting formal or impromptu tours, and:

  • Providing a warm, welcoming experience for all visitors.
  • Conducting tours of the museum.
  • Assisting the associate curator/adjunct curator with educational craft programs.
  • Performing light cleaning, such as dusting and cleaning glass.

Volunteer hours

  • Thursdays and Fridays: 11 a.m. – 3 p.m.
  • Saturdays: 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.
  • Volunteer shifts are two hours long, with the option to extend them if desired.
