Thousands of people converged on the Washington State Capitol Campus in Olympia on Saturday, Oct. 18, to protest policies enacted by President Donald Trump since he took office earlier this year.
The peaceful protest was one of hundreds of "No Kings" demonstrations that took place across the United States on Saturday.
The protest emphasized the fact that the U.S. has no kings, political power belongs to the people and that the government's power comes from “We the People.”
Speaking to the crowd in front of the Legislative Building, retired King County Superior Court Judge John Erlick spoke of how citizens need to come together and resist the actions of the Trump administration.
“We are here in support of the Constitution,” he said, “and the rule of law means that all laws apply equally to all people … and when the rule of law falters, tyranny moves in.”
The protest came a few months after the first "No Kings" rally in June.
For more on the "No Kings" demonstration, read The JOLT Daily newsletter on Monday, Oct. 20.

312 electoral votes. 77,302,580 in the popular vote. "We the people" already spoke in the election last year. It's only proper democracy when a leftist wins.

So now that the "No Kings" rally is completed, do you think that we can open up the government again without giving all the free crap out to the population that came here through the border without being vetted??

Typical idiotic comment from JW. No one is contesting the election. It's about what is happening now. The draft-dodging, serial-adultering, porn-star paying, sexual-assaulting, convicted felon, is trying to undermine the very foundations of our democratic system. And its fools like you who cover your eyes and ears who are letting him get away with it.

No Kings Day on October 18 was a tremendous success! It was a festive event in Olympia! Music, dancing, and very creative signs. 900+ in Ocean Shores
Nationally, the turnout was substantially larger than the turnout on June 14—demonstrating that the tide is turning and that we have seized the momentum!
The fact that millions of Americans protested peacefully with no reported arrests is a testament to the discipline of the participants and the skill of the organizers.
We are loyal to the constitution.

I was there. What a joke. So many extremely offensive signs filled with lies.

So odd that one who was democratically elected is seen as a "king". Especially since he is enacting precisely the agenda he was so transparent about during the campaign. What could be less regnal?

Yes, he's doing exactly what he said he was going to do, and a majority elected him on it. Therefore, democracy, as you love to say, has spoken. So sorry you lost. Now pick up your toys and stop whining in the streets with your fellow leftist babies.

I was there. My sign said "Liberty! No KIngs!" It was an uplifting celebration of my right to free speech and an opportunity for community involvement. We were not protesting that Trump is a King. Trump and his allies who imply that "No Kings" protesters think Trump is already literally a King are sadly missing the point. We aren't "sore losers" who are pissed off "our side" lost the 2024 election. The point of the protest was to raise awareness that many of the Trump administration actions bear more resemblance to an authoritarian regime than a thriving democracy. These are difficult times for our nation; we are traveling uncharted waters. I am trying to learn from history what "we the people" can do to protect our quality of life and assure a bright future for our children. What party you or I voted for in the last election, or the 2020 election, is not what I spend my days thinking about.

President Trump won by around 1.5% of the vote, hardly a sweeping mandate, but he did win. So, how's it going now? Are you happy that Doge hoovered up all your personal information? Happy with grocery prices? Are you happy with your tax dollars being used for frivolous things like the "free" plane from Qatar, or the renovations to the White House? Or maybe you like your tax dollars being used to bail out farmers who are losing the majority of their markets due to tariffs. How about the efforts to quash free speech?
I see Don't Tread on Me flags around the area and wonder that people don't realize Trump is treading on all of us. This guy is a disaster with a 37% approval rating nationwide, again hardly a mandate. It's time to dump this guy and start acting like Americans.

A wonderful uplifting rally for democracy and against the excesses and failures of the GOP and Trump.
At least 10,000 people attended . Much larger than June’s great turnout. News reports seem to only be counting people in front of the Capitol and Supreme Court buildings. I counted at least a thousand on either side of Capitol Blvd with hundreds still walking up from Downtown when the speakers were nearly done.
The excitement, fun and great turnout is Good reminder that our Declaration of Independence and Constitution retains political power in the people. Trump hid his support for anti-democratic and deep cuts to valued federal programs from the electorate. He denied any knowledge of Project 2025. He and GOP illegitimate budget cuts are closing hospitals in red and blue states. Inflation he promised to end continues.
