The North Thurston High School Class of 2025 graduated during a commencement ceremony at Hal and Inge Marcus Pavilion at Saint Martin’s University on Wednesday, June 11.
The ceremony began with a prelude, which included “Allegro Pomposo,” “March of the Meistersingers,” “Pirates of the Caribbean” and “The Stars and Stripes Forever,” which was performed by the North Thurston High School Symphony Orchestra. The orchestra then played “Pomp and Circumstance” during the processional.
Graduating senior August Deming sang “The Star-Spangled Banner,” and fellow graduating senior Allie Jones recited the North Thurston Public Schools Land Acknowledgement. The ceremony introduction was given by graduating senior Jakenzie Pugh.
Remarks included a welcome address by Superintendent Troy Oliver, speeches by graduating seniors Kurt Cavalier, Jr. and Joseph Waldon, and the presentation of the class and closing remarks by Principal Nick Greenwell.
Other musical performances included “Mirror,” which was performed by graduating senior Sitannie Cruz, and “I’ll Be on My Way,” which was performed by the North Thurston High School Senior Choir under the direction of Caitlin Van Zee.
North Thurston High School presented 357 diplomas to the Class of 2025. Immediately preceding the graduate recessional, the Class of 2025 sang the school’s alma mater, accompanied by the Symphony Orchestra.
Each of the five North Thurston Public Schools Board of Directors were in attendance for the ceremony: President Gretchen Maliska of District 1, Tiffany Sevruk of District 2, Sarah Tracy of District 3, Vice President Esperanza Badillo-Diiorio of District 4 and Michelle Gipson of District 5.
North Thurston High School opened in 1955 and is a comprehensive high school serving grades nine through 12 in Olympia and Lacey.
