Two individuals from the North Thurston Public Schools (NTPS) were honored for championing literacy at the South Sound Reading Foundation’s Readers are Leaders event.
The foundation recognized Artemis Potter, a Timberline High School senior, and Courtney Schrieve, a district employee and the foundation's founding director.
The award honors literacy champions who invest in children's literacy, and bring the joy and promise of books and reading to children in the South Sound, according to the foundation’s website.
“Congratulations to the two NTPS honorees at today's South Sound Reading Foundation Readers are Leaders event! Both were recognized for their efforts to promote early literacy in our community,” the district wrote.
The Readers are Leaders event was conducted at a benefit breakfast on April 15 at Lacey Community Center.
The foundation, which celebrated its 25th year, has helped distribute books to children to foster a love of reading from an early age.
