Olympia accepting applicants for municipal court judge

With incumbent Municipal Judge Scott Ahlf moving to serve as Washington State’s court services director for the Administrative Office of Courts, Olympia is seeking applicants who will finish the term of its municipal judge.

In its statement, Olympia is looking for lawyers with the following credentials:

  • Proof of citizenship
  • Attorney admitted to practice law before the courts of record of the state of Washington
  • A resident of the state of Washington and Thurston County at the time of appointment

The chosen applicant will finish Ahlf’s term which will end on December 31, 2025.

Aspirants to the post must submit their application, including all attachments, online to the city’s Executive Services Assistant by 4 p.m. on Monday, August 7.

“Olympia’s Municipal Court Judge is the elected Presiding Judge for the Olympia Municipal Court and directs the judicial operations of the Court and Probation services, as well as the Olympia Community Court,” the city explained.  “The Municipal Court Judge has independence from the executive and legislative branches of municipal government in carrying out the Court’s responsibilities.”

Olympia recounted in its statement that it filed 2,893 cases in Municipal Court in 2022.
