Olympia man accused of sexually harassing EMT

Victim ‘tired of being assaulted and not doing anything about it’

An Olympia man was charged with a felony after his alleged sexual harassment of a female emergency medical technician (EMT) who was trying to transport him to a hospital.

William Wiley Stone, 35, was charged with third-degree assault by the Thurston County Prosecuting Attorney on December 21.

Lacey police arrested Stone on December 18 after an EMT for Olympic Ambulance reported a sex offense at the Fred Meyer store on Sleater Kinney Road SE.

The EMT said she and a male colleague were called to the grocery store for medical transport. They were advised that the subject, later identified as Stone, needed to be evaluated at a hospital because he was running into traffic and causing a scene.

Stone was “riled up” when he got into the back of the ambulance, the female EMT told police. She said she asked Stone to calm down so he could be brought to a hospital, at which point the suspect touched the inside of her thigh.

The EMT said she pushed Stone’s hand off her thigh and told him, “Do not touch me.” The suspect responded by calling the EMT a “b*tch” and a “c*nt” then once again moving his hand up her thigh, this time into her groin area, the police report stated.

The EMT said she forced Stone’s hand off her and said, “Do not touch me again or you’re going to be kicked out of the ambulance.” She said Stone replied, “Well, you’re sexy. Oops, am I allowed to say that? I already said it, too late.” He also called her “cute” and cursed at her, the EMT said.

The male EMT confirmed his colleague’s recollection of the incident, writing in his witness statement that he heard her “tell the patient to stop touching her.”

Stone also attempted to kick the EMTs while he was being transported to Providence St. Peter Hospital, according to the police report.

At the hospital, the female EMT told a Lacey officer that she wanted to pursue charges against Stone because she was “tired of being assaulted and not doing anything about it.”

Hospital staff declared Stone mentally and physically fit to be held in jail. He was detained without incident at the hospital then taken to the Thurston County Jail, where he was booked for third-degree assault with sexual motivation.

The police officer who filed the report recommended that Stone not be released until the DCR (designated crisis responder) reviews the case, due to Stone’s  “extensive history of assaults and disorderly conduct.”

It's so typical that a female EMT reports that she was "tired of being assaulted and not doing anything about it." I'm sure that happens to them all the time. It sure does in the military, I had it happen to me many times and the NCO's and officers blew it off. So often males..not all of them, mind you, in positions of authority over female officers ignore such harassment. There are definitely judges who think such assaults are merely "boys being boys'.

I'd probably make a terrible EMT or police officer, because had the scumball touched me, especially after being warned, I'd break his fingers.

And sad to say, I'm betting Stone was released. After all,it wasn't a male officer or EMT who was assaulted.
