Olympia police arrested a 29-year-old man on Sun., Oct. 31, after he allegedly stole cheesecake from a local grocery store and threatened to stab a retail employee who confronted him.

Law enforcers were dispatched to the Safeway store in west Olympia after receiving a trespassing complaint, according to the police report.

The employee told police that the suspect became agitated after he was told to leave the store premises for stealing cheesecake.

“[I] was cussed out then told I was going to get stabbed,” the employee said in his witness statement.

The employee said he dropped the cheesecake, worth $16.99, and went back into the store to avoid an altercation with the man.

The store’s night shift manager told police that he had been having issues with the man because the suspect had allegedly stolen from the establishment and verbally assaulted staff in the past.

“He has been trespassed on multiple occasions for theft and verbal assault,” the manager said in a statement to police.

The responding officer also noted that the man was served a 12-month trespass notice by Olympia police on Oct. 8, adding that he was familiar with the suspect and knew him to “frequent businesses throughout the westside.”

The manager and the employee both said man used a knife to make threats, but the police report indicated that the suspect was unarmed.

Police spotted man running away from the store. He was booked into the Thurston County Jail for second-degree burglary and harassment with threats.
