A 49-year-old man was arrested on Saturday, Sept. 6, following allegations of unlawful imprisonment and rape at his residence in Olympia.

An Olympia Police Department report states that law enforcement officers responded to a residence in the 2800 block of Limited Lane NW in the early morning hours of Sept. 6.

The response came after a 911 text message was sent from  a woman who reported she was being prevented from leaving the residence. She later confirmed she was able to exit the residence and met with responding officers nearby.

The suspect, identified as Racheem “Rush” Hamilton, allegedly blocked the woman from leaving and took possession of her phone while inside the unit, the report states.

The woman told officers that the suspect forced her into a sexual act against her will.

“She stated she went to leave and Rush yelled at her to not touch the doorknob and proceeded to block the front door with his body to prevent her from leaving,” a responding officer stated in the report after interviewing the woman.

During the interrogation, Hamilton apparently admitted a sexual encounter had taken place, but denied forcing the woman or preventing the woman from leaving. He told police the interaction was consensual.

The woman was sent back to the scene where she confirmed the suspect was the one who sexually assaulted her.

Based on statements and evidence gathered at the scene, police determined there was probable cause to arrest Hamilton.

He was taken into custody and booked into the Thurston County Corrections Facility on suspicion of third-degree rape and unlawful imprisonment.
