Olympia opens application window for 2026 tourism funding

Posted

The City of Olympia is now accepting applications for 2026 tourism-related funding supported by its lodging tax revenue.

The money is available to organizations that promote overnight stays in local lodging establishments, and organize events and facilities to attract visitors from more than 50 miles away.

Funding comes from a 4 percent tax collected on overnight stays in hotels, motels, as well bed-and-breakfast establishments in Olympia.

As dictated by state law, the money can be used for marketing or operating tourism-focused events and festivals, operation of tourism-related facilities owned by the city, and supporting tourism facilities managed by qualifying nonprofit organizations.

Proposals that are likely to increase hotel stays, promote Olympia to out-of-county visitors, and support local economic activity will receive priority consideration. Projects that avoid overlap with existing services, and encourage collaboration or shared marketing, are also encouraged.

Eligible applicants include nonprofits, businesses and government agencies. The Lodging Tax Advisory Committee will review all applications and submit funding recommendations for 2026 to the Olympia City Council. Funded applicants must enter into a reimbursement-based contract with the city.

Applications must be submitted by 11:59 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 29. Late submissions will not be considered.

Details about eligibility, funding guidelines and the application process are posted on the city’s website. Questions about the program can be directed to Senior Program Specialist Amelia Layton at 360-570-3808.
