Olympia police seek public’s help in identifying burglary suspect

The Olympia Police Department is asking for the community’s assistance in identifying a suspect connected to a burglary.

On Friday, Sept. 12, officers were dispatched to an apartment complex in the 3200 block of Capital Mall Drive SW after receiving a report of a burglary around 4:30 a.m.

According to police, a man entered an apartment through a sliding glass door that was not secured. Family members were sleeping inside the residence when the suspect entered. The mother woke up and saw the suspect who fled the scene.

“She immediately checked on her sleeping children and found them still asleep and unharmed. The only thing missing was some money from her wallet,” said the Olympia Police Department in a social media post.

Authorities reviewed security camera footage from the apartment complex and confirmed the suspect had attempted to gain entry into multiple units before leaving the area.

The footage shows the man checking doors and windows throughout the complex. Images captured from the footage have been released to assist in identifying the suspect.

He was described as wearing dark clothing, though the clothing appears lighter in surveillance footage.

Investigators continue to follow leads, but are urging residents to come forward if they have any information about the case.

Anyone with information about the suspect or the case is asked to contactthe Olympia Police Department at 360-753-8300.
