Last Saturday’s Olympia Pride March brought together about 600 individuals next to the Tivoli Foundation on the Washington State Capitol Campus.
“I’m really excited for this march,” M. Biggerstaff said as she looked out over the growing crowd, “because it reaffirms that every individual matters.”
Sponsored by Capital City Pride with the theme of “Remember the Future, Celebrate the Past,” the march was a peaceful demonstration focused on raising awareness about the struggles faced by the LGBTQ+ community, celebrate their resilience and achievements, and advocate for equal rights.
“By marching we foster a sense of unity, create visibility and contribute to a more inclusive society,” commented Melinda Posner.
“This is one of two sanctioned pride events … and for me, the march is both personal and professional.”
Beginning right at 10:30 am, the march proceeded down Capitol Way South and ended at Percival Landing. Once there, participants could browse through over 90+ stands as they made their way to the Port Plaza Tower to enjoy a Pride Festival & Show.
“It feels really good to be out of the house and out here,” said Rylee Siera said as she walked by. “It’s gonna be a good day!”
