The City of Olympia is inviting residents to submit a piece of art or poetry in observance of National Day of Racial Healing in January.
The event is an annual ceremony that aims to bring people together to promote humanity and equity.
Interested locals are encouraged to create something that imagines a world where everybody feels safe, respected and included, regardless of what they look like or their background.
“What would that world look like to you? How would people treat each other, and what could we do to make that happen in our schools, neighborhoods or families?” the city wrote in a newsletter.
The works, to be submitted on or before noon on Jan. 12, 2026, are going to be part of a large window display at City Hall or The Olympia Center.
Submissions can be a drawing, painting or poem, submitted on a 3.5 inch by 5 inch card. Contributors are asked to either scan and email submissions to DEI@ci.olympia.wa.us, mail it to, or drop it off at Olympia City Hall (ATTN: Keli Drake, P.O. Box 1967, Olympia, WA 98507).
The displays will be open to the public from Jan. 15 to Feb. 28, and will also serve as part of the city-hosted National Day of Racial Healing community conversation on Jan. 17 from 1:30–4 p.m. at The Olympia Center.
The free event welcomes all individuals and groups, and includes light refreshments, activities, speakers and a children’s story time featuring Olympia Mayor Dontae Payne.
According to the newsletter, the City of Olympia started observing the day in 2023 to recognize how racial healing restores communities to wholeness, heals damage caused by racism, and transforms society to one that affirms the inherent value of all people.

Have families not nose rings. White women's giant brains and ambitions are destroying fertility, our nation, their extended families, and the families they will diminish and never have for their own. They look for healing outside of themselves.

AugieH, White women are hurting so very, very, very badly. You see it in their eyes. You see it in their walk. You hear it in their talk. It's excruciating to be around them; the pain is palpable. They have a wall that is not their creation pinching them, which they want to think is sexual. No, they lost their attractiveness/sexuality and projected their sexuality on children. It is so sick here in Olympia.

Interesting. The first legal slave owner in this country was a black man, Anthony Johnson. A former indentured servant himself, he went to court and won, the ruling was he "owned" an indentured servant who tried to change places of work.
He began buying and selling slaves to his family and friends. Slavery expanded to have owners as: Native Americans, Hispanics, Asians, whites and more.
The north only allowed slavery for 10 years. When a white Republican freed the slaves, tens of thousands of slaves were owned by natives, thousands of black families owned slaves.
About 300,000 whites and 20,000 blacks from the north gave their lives to end slavery. Obama's ancestors were slave owners. Is it time to quit dwelling on this?
Slavery still exists around the world, including modern day slavery in our country by using illegal immigrants. Do you ever wonder where they live?

"National Day of Racial Healing"? I find it counterproductive to continue with all the virtue signaling. Why can't we simply live our lives and stop all this nonsense?
That's what I do every day of my life.

Honestyandrealityguy doen't know basic history:
Party platforms shifted after the passing of the Civil Rights Act. The platforms of Democrats and Republicans had flipped. This is why modern Republicans fly Confederate flags and downplay racism in the USA - they're ideological leftovers from the Confederacy.

Your continued downplaying/justification of slavery tells us who you really are.

Thepantywhisperer - Boatyarddog is correct, you're just mad that you can't act upon your prejudices without being rightfully criticized. You exclude yourself when you express and demonstrate hatred.

So true @ CobraCommander. Seems the Whiners here and on other Forums exclude the very Bias They Themselves Exibit with their written viewpoints. They get Upset because they get Zero accomplished this way. If you want change, don't whine about it go out and work for it. Exchange ideas, Don't Threaten someone, talk about it. Make yourself available to consult, exchange thoughts. Whining does nothing. But make you look Shallow, thoughtless and creates just the opposite result.

Supporters of DEI advocate for Inclusion, unless you don't agree with their position or perspective. Alternate points of view are not tolerated and not included. In my opinion, DEI stands for Division, Exclusion and Intolerant. It is destructive to the concept of unity. Can we just learn to get along, even if we disagree.?
