The Olympia School District Board of Directors proclaimed March 9-13 as Education Support Professionals Week to honor staff with supportive roles, including but not limited to aides, nurses, drivers and administrative personnel.

Education support professionals are involved in maintenance, meals, classroom assistance,  research activities, information technology and media services, administrative support functions, coaching, transportation, health and various specialized services.

“By supporting the learning environment, education support professionals are crucial partners with teachers, parents, administrators and school boards,” the proclamation states.

Members of the school board took turns in reading passages from the proclamation at a meeting on Feb. 26.

“These dedicated individuals deserve recognition and thanks for the outstanding work they are doing for this state, their communities, and the students enrolled in Olympia's schools,” Director Maria Flores read from the proclamation.

The proclamation states that 700 education support professionals work in the Olympia School District.
