Olympia School District holds annual communications audit

As part of an annual communications audit, the Olympia School District (OSD) showcased the launch of an 83-member communications group, software improvements and a partnership with students.

The district performed the audit with Director of Communications & Community Relations Conor Schober at a work session on Wednesday, Jan. 7.

The district launched the OSD School Board News Communications Group, composed of 83 members initially, to “enhance transparency and community engagement.”

“We've got about 107 members of that group now. So that's like that's just a ParentSquare group that we send out reminders usually,” Schober said.

School processes were successfully integrated from Skyward to Qmlativ technology platforms to ensure a smooth data transition to the ParentSquare communications platform.

A forms and permission slips functionality and secure documents feature were also added in the ParentSquare platform for enhanced document security.

To maintain a consistent and engaging social media presence, the district has also partnered with learners under the Student Leadership Advisory Council

Schober also discussed how communications with parents through ParentSquare SmartSites Content Management System will be more organized and streamlined based on community feedback.

“Right now, we are putting together menu structures for all of the school sites, as well as the district site and the internet, getting everything laid out,” Schober said.

The new system is expected to be launched in the summer 2026, with a more responsive design, translation readiness and improved accessibility.

The district also aims to align communications with student outcomes, stating that weaving student outcomes into all communications would create a cohesive narrative that demonstrates the district's impact.

I know there were some hiccups getting it set up, but honestly I love ParentSquare. It makes it really easy to communicate with multiple teachers about multiple kids.

It's good to hear from OlyMama it works. Getting the right system is a challenge.
