The Olympia School District (OSD) is seeking interested volunteers for the Long Range Facilities Master Planning Advisory Committee and Student-Led Advisory Council.

Long Range Facilities Master Planning Advisory Committee

The Long Range Facilities Master Planning Advisory Committee aims to help develop a new minimum of 10-year master plan. The district’s current long-range plan developed in 2010 expires next year.

The application is open to all OSD students, staff, families, and community partners.

The committee will have 40 participants, ranging from school representatives to community members from various interest groups.

“Through outreach and engagement, the district aims to honor school, community, and stakeholder input as the Long Range Facilities Planning Advisory Committee works to explore, evaluate, and establish facility priorities that reflect the student's and community's unique character and vision within district boundaries and the surrounding area,” OSD’s news release stated.

The tentative date of the first meeting is October 14 or 15, with final meetings in May next year. During this time frame, the committee is set to host ten meetings and a facilities tour.

Participants need to commit to attending a series of meetings. There is approximately one meeting per month, with two meetings necessary in some months.

The new 10-year (minimum) master plan follows OSD Policy 6900—Facilities PlanningApplications for the committee are open until 5 p.m. on Friday, September 27.

Student-Led Advisory Council

OSD is also seeking applicants to its Student-Led Advisory Council (SLAC), which includes applicants of various races, socio-economic backgrounds, athletic interests, extracurricular activities, and academic achievements.

“The SLAC's goal is to ensure Olympia School District students have a voice in school decisions. They hope to bring student ideas and concerns directly to the school board, helping shape policies that work for everyone and strengthening our school community,” the news release stated.

Beginning November 4, SLAC Meetings will take place at the OSD Knox Administration Building on the first Monday of every month from 5 to 7 p.m.

Applications to the SLAC are open to sophomore, junior, or senior students at any of the district's high schools. The application window is open until October 7, and then applicants will be reviewed and interviewed throughout October.
