The Olympia School District is gearing up for summer classes for students in high school and elementary school.

Registration for the high school classes is now open for credit recovery and initial credit, the school district said in an announcement.

Students for elementary summer classes can join through the recommendation of teachers. Classes are focused on reading with additional support.

Incoming grade nine students to class of 2025 seniors can now register for summer school, with classes running from July 7 to Aug. 14. Classes are held from 9 a.m. to noon on Monday through Thursday.

All high school courses will utilize computer-based instruction, allowing students to work remotely.

In-person support and assessments are also provided. Tests must be completed in person at Olympia Regional Learning Academy.

The announcement states that students should plan to work approximately three hours per day.

The registration form for the high school summer program opened on June 9. The deadline is Friday, June 27.

The credit recovery program, which is for students who did not earn credit during a previous attempt, costs $150 to attend, with no cost for lunch.

The initial credit program, which is designed for students taking a course for the first time, costs $150, with a $50 reduced-price lunch for students.

More information on the school district's website. It is recommended to check with counselors to verify the courses that need to be taken.

The free program is open to current enrollees in first through fourth grade, but students must be nominated by a teacher. Registration is limited due to staffing and facilities.

“If you are interested in the program please speak to your child’s teacher to discuss if they feel that your child should be recommended to attend summer school,” states the announcement.

Summer classes for the elementary level are from July 7 to July 24,  from 9 a.m. to noon on Monday through Thursday.

This program is especially meant for students who are reading below grade level or need additional support.

Elementary summer school will be held at Roosevelt Elementary School (east side) and Garfield Elementary School (west side).

Lunch is free and will be served after classes at the school. Transportation will not be provided.
