The Olympia School District proclaimed June as Pride Month, as a means to declare support for LGBTQIA+ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Intersex, and Asexual) students, families and staff.
According to a proclamation, LGBTQIA+ students report higher rates of being bullied or harassed at school, resulting in higher rates of dropout, academic failure and disengagement.
“When we make a proclamation like this, this board, this district, is making a call to action, and it's a call to action that's reflected in the values that you see represented in our outcome statements here,” said Board President Scott Clifthorne.
The district directed staff to teach and engage in professional learning about gender-inclusive schools, as stated in the proclamation.
The board members also endorsed and encouraged the community to participate in Pride Month in June 2025.
The board members and student representatives took turns reading the paragraphs at the Thursday, May 22, meeting.

You say don’t tell people how to raise their children, but then expect people to allow teachers to pump their children’s heads full of insane propaganda about mental illness. If they were physically assaulting kids, I’d have something to say just the same. They are my business when it’s promoting mental illness and causing harm, especially to kids.
