Olympia School District seeks new student representatives

Posted

The Olympia School District (OSD) Student Board of Representatives application for the school year 2025-26 is open until April 6, 2025.

Every spring, the OSD Board of Directors selects juniors or seniors to serve on the board as student representatives.

One representative will be chosen from each high school —  Avanti High School, Capital High School, Olympia High School and Olympia Regional Learning Academy (ORLA).

The board’s student representatives serve in an advisory capacity during meetings and may cast nonbinding advisory votes on motions.

The student representatives participate in the discussion by voicing student insights, and also comment on policies, procedures and decisions affecting students.

“They also serve as liaisons for student leadership at their schools and report to fellow students about the work of the board and district activities,” the district’s website states.

The district will hold an informational session on Friday, March 28, at 4 p.m. through Zoom.

Interviews will be held on April 14-18. Chosen student board representatives will be introduced during the board’s April 24 meeting.

New student board representatives will be sworn in at the May 22 board meeting.

Relevant questions can be sent to Nicole González at ngonzalez@osd.wednet.edu.

The current student board representatives are: Avanti High School’s Sovana Roberts, Capital High School’s Alijah Manzanares, Olympia High School’s Vy Le and ORLA’s Declan Borden.
