The Olympia School District Board declared May 6 to 10 as Teacher’s Appreciation Week through a proclamation signed on Thursday, April 11.

The proclamation highlighted that teachers work in partnership with parents to ensure the appropriate education for all children. The district holds its teachers in high regard, understands the value placed on their skills and abilities, and recognizes the impact they have on students’ lives.

“Therefore, we, the members, the Olympia School Board, and the superintendent, do hereby proclaim the week of May 6 to 10, 2024 as teacher Appreciation week in the Olympia School District, and we urge all staff, students, and citizens of the Olympia School District to join us in this special observance,” read Superintendent Patrick Murphy.

Olympia Education Association Vice President Maribeth Wheeler joined the board for the proclamation.

The board also recognized the teachers who renewed their National Board Certification at a special recognition ceremony before the meeting.

“Congratulations to the National Board Certified teachers. It's a lot of work, and I really appreciate that. I know that our students appreciate that as well, even though they may not be able to say that,” said District 3 Director Darcy Huffman.
