An Olympia woman was arrested after she allegedly pointed a gun at one of her tenants.

According to a report from the Thurston County Sheriff’s Office, Jan Dee Smith, 66, who manages a trailer park, was arrested on Jan. 1 after a reported altercation on the 3100 block of 78th Avenue.

The tenant, a 43-year-old man, told a Sheriff’s deputy that he was walking on the trailer park when Smith came out on her porch and allegedly pointed a black pistol at his head.

“If you’re going to point a gun at me you better shoot me,” the tenant recalled telling Smith, to which the suspect replied, “You look like you want to die.”

The tenant said he had been living on the property for around five years, but Smith recently told him to leave, so he had been moving his things out while occasionally staying at the trailer park.

Smith told a Sheriff’s deputy that she felt unsafe around the tenant, so when she saw him walking in the direction of her home, she went out with a gun in hand.

The suspect told a deputy that she pointed the gun at the tenant’s face to show him that she was armed but claimed that she had no intention to shoot.

Both Smith and the tenant told the deputy that they retreated to their homes shortly after the incident. Smith’s daughter arrived at the scene moments later to find her mother inside their home, near the front door, while she saw the tenant just entering his RV.

Smith’s daughter and the tenant both said it was normal for him to walk back and forth on the property because he was moving his things out.

After the responding Sheriff’s deputy found probable cause to arrest Smith, the suspect tweaked her retelling of events to note that, after she lowered her gun, the tenant allegedly began advancing toward her “in a rage.”

Smith also reiterated that the tenant scares her. When asked by the deputy what statements or actions by the tenant caused her fear, she was unable to respond.

The suspect was booked at the Thurston County Jail for second-degree assault.
