Olympia is organizing an in-person information session to discuss the State and Pacific Avenues Pedestrian and Bike Safety Project.

The project will introduce several changes along Pacific and State avenues from Sawyer Street to Fir Street, with construction set to begin in the summer of 2025.

The project aims to improve safety and accessibility for pedestrians, cyclists, transit riders and drivers.

The in-person information session will be held on Thursday, Feb. 20, from 5:30-7:00 p.m. at City Hall, Council Chambers, 601 block of 4th Ave. E, Olympia.

Community members can view project graphics, hear a short presentation and participate in a question and answer session.

Some of the planned changes under this project are separated bike lanes with green paint and vertical elements for increased visibility, raised pedestrian islands to reduce crossing distances and improve pedestrian safety, curb ramp upgrades for better accessibility to people with difficulty walking, and many more.

Check the State and Pacific Avenue Pedestrian and Bike Safety Project news release for planned changes.

Construction will occur in phases. Initial work, including installing concrete islands and temporary striping, will begin in the summer of 2025. Final resurfacing and permanent striping are expected to be completed in 2026.

During construction, residents can expect lane closures, parking impacts and detours for pedestrians and cyclists.
