One person is in custody after authorities say a man went into Key Bank on Tuesday and passed a note to a teller, demanding cash and saying he was armed.
Leon A. Wilcox, 24, was arrested on suspicion of first-degree robbery and third-degree theft. He’s being held on $35,000 bail.
According to court documents, Wilcox is accused of passing a note to a bank teller that indicated he was armed. He received $400 from the teller and left. The suspect was shown on surveillance footage, and police circulated photos of the suspect with a mask over his face and sunglasses blocking his eyes.
Police identified Wilcox as a suspect after identifying the plates on the car the suspect drove — which was caught by surveillance cameras. While Wilcox wasn’t the owner of the car, police did contact the vehicle’s actual owner, who said Wilcox was using the car.
According to court documents, Wilcox called an Olympia officer, saying he wanted to talk about “some dumb shit I did yesterday in Olympia.” Wilcox met with officers Wednesday night and was taken into custody.
During a preliminary court hearing this afternoon, Deputy Prosecutor Scott Jackson argued Wilcox be held on $50,000 bail.
While Wilcox is accused of claiming to be armed, Public Defender Christian Cabrera said there’s no evidence the suspect actually had a gun on him. He also said no one was harmed during the robbery, he argued for a lower bail amount of $5,000.
Superior Court Commissioner Nathan Kortokrax imposed $35,000 bail and ordered Wilcox to surrender any guns in his possession.
