Over 100 local micro-businesses, nonprofits showcased in Lacey's Sunday Market

Economic Development Coordinator Wesley Nguyen reported that Lacey's Sunday Depot Market is heading in the right direction in promoting and supporting micro businesses and nonprofits in the city.

Since the project's launch in April this year, Nguyen said it had supported more than 100 local micro-businesses and nonprofits in growing their market while providing a go-to spot for families wanting to shop in the city.

"We have been able to provide enrichment to the families through quality entertainment, art projects and kids activities," said Nguyen.

Councilmember Lenny Greenstein said he was able to talk to some of the food stall vendors in the area, and they gave positive feedback on the events.

"Not only is it bringing a lot of business on the days of the events, but it's getting their name out there a lot more and it's helping their business," said Greenstein.

Nguyen explained that the primary goal of the Sunday Depot Market is to provide cultural, recreation and culinary experiences to the community while supporting local businesses.

Nguyen also quoted Meggie Roldon during his presentation. Roldon, a first-time entrepreneur, said the Sunday Depot did not only create a job for her, but also allowed her to hire two more people to help her.

"We love Sunday in the Park. People are coming, and market events are a great way to help us promote our business," said Roldon, who owns Meggie's Lumpia Food Stall.

The Lacey's Sunday Depot Market will run until October and might be extended until Halloween.

Nguyen presented the updates about the project to Lacey's Finance & Economic Development Committee, which includes Mayor Andy Ryder and Deputy Mayor Malcolm Miller, during a meeting on July 25.
