The Olympia City Council approved a five-year agreement that bundles all of the Olympia Police Department’s technology equipment and services into a single contract with Axon Enterprises, Inc.
The agreement was approved as part of the consent calendar during the city council’s meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 21.
The agreement encompasses body worn and interview room cameras, Tasers, digital evidence management systems, software licenses and support services under a unified package.
The move is expected to save the city about $267,185 over five years, while locking in current pricing and improving procurement efficiency.
According to a staff report, the agreement simplifies contract management, shields against inflation, and ensures continuity in equipment lifecycle management and support services.
It also adds Axon Translate, which supports more than 50 languages to improve communication with residents who have limited English proficiency.
The total cost is $1.6 million over five years; it is going to be paid for with money from the city’s general fund. In comparing the previous set of individual contracts, the cost would have totaled about $1.9 million over the same period.
The staff report stated consolidating Axon contracts also supports the city's goals of improving public safety, accountability, and community trust by ensuring consistent access to modern tools and technologies.
