A battle for a Port of Olympia Commission seat is going down to the wire in the Nov. 4 General Election in Thurston County.
Port Commissioner District No. 2 incumbent Bob Iyall rebounded in the latest ballot count update on Friday, Nov. 5, to move ahead of challenger Jerry Toompas in a back-and-forth contest.
As of 4:37 p.m. on Friday, Iyall racked up 36,086 votes or 49.87 percent, compared with 35,958 votes or 49.69 percent for challenger Jerry Toompas, according to unofficial results.
A day earlier, Toompas held a 34 vote advantage after the ballot count was updated on Thursday, Nov. 6. That marked the first time he was up in the race.
A total of 78,080 votes have been cast in the Nov. 4 General Election. That marked a turnout of 36.59 percent.
The Thurston County Auditor’s Office Elections Division estimates there are 5,400 ballots left to count. The next ballot count update will be posted on Monday, Nov. 10.
