Port of Olympia wants public input for airport plans

Posted

The Port of Olympia is inviting the public to participate in planning for its regional airport.

Port of Olympia authorities will be hosting a virtual open house meeting on Thu., Feb. 17 to get people’s thoughts on its Master Plan Update (MPU) for the Olympia Regional Airport, which the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) states should be updated every five to ten years.

In a press release, Port authorities clarified that the public’s feedback will be used to identify Port issues outside airport maintenance, operations, property leasing, management, and policies.

“However, when these issues are identified during the master planning process,” the press release added, “they will be documented so they can be considered outside of the master plan process.”

The Port’s statement explained that the study, funded by the FAA,  is meant to foresee short-, medium, and long-term development plans for the airport to address future demands. It also states that all decisions on the plan are ultimately made by the Port themselves.

"Although the Port is responsible for all development decisions, the influence of public input will be documented where possible," the release clarified.

Tentative schedules for the meetings and public events can be seen here.
