Gas prices rebounded locally and across the state this week amid continued instability along a key waterway in the Middle East that has restricted the flow of oil tankers in the region.
The price of regular unleaded gasoline checked in at $5.456 per gallon in the Olympia market on Friday, April 24, up from $5.430 per gallon on Friday, April 17, according to data compiled by AAA.
The most recent reading was about 11.5 cents per gallon off the all-time high of $5.571, which was set on June 13, 2022.
Gas prices made an about-face after falling last week for the first time since the United States and Israel launched coordinated military operations against Iran on Feb. 28.
Despite a ceasefire agreement, tensions between the U.S. and Iran have kept oil tankers from gaining safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz, multiple media outlets have reported. That has impacted the per barrel price of oil.
The Strait of Hormuz, which is a crucial passageway for oil shipments, connects the Persian Gulf with Arabian Sea and is bordered by Iran to the north and Oman to the south.
While the average price of regular unleaded fell nationwide this week, the scenario was different in the western part of the country.
The state of Washington maintained its grip on the third highest average price in the country at $5.409 per gallon on Friday, April 24, up from $5.386 on Friday, April 17.
California continued to be the most expensive market at $5.884 per gallon on April 24, up from $5.856 a week earlier. Hawaii followed at $5.649 per gallon, down from $5.659 in the same period.
In the state of Washington, the highest average price for regular unleaded gas was posted in the Seattle-Bellevue-Everett market at $5.637 per gallon on Friday, April 24, up from $5.616 per gallon one week ago.
The lowest average price for regular unleaded gas was recorded in the Clarkson market at $4.599 per gallon on Friday, April 24, up from $4.549 per gallon a week earlier. AAA tracks gas prices in 14 markets across the state of Washington.

You’re welcome, Trump voters. Careful what you ask for, you just may get. Along with an absurd war skyrocketing healthcare costs.

Not Trump's fault, it is our moronic state government, plus gas stations gouging based on fake sentiment. There is plenty of gasoline available.

Hah, what it's the state's fault that gas is more expensive globally?
Southsoundguy doesn't know anything about economics and this is 100% caused by Trump.
This is what you voted for. Be proud!
