Public facilities district seeks applicants for two vacancies on board

Posted

Applicants are being sought for a pair of vacant, district-wide seats on the Captial Area Regional Public Facilities District Board (CAR-PFD).

The applicants are being sought for full terms by the cities of Lacey, Olympia and Tumwater, and Thurston County.

One term expires on March 1, 2028. The other term expires on March 1, 2029.

"These positions are two of the three district-wide representatives on the CAR-PFD Board, appointed by the elected officials of Lacey, Olympia, Tumwater, and Thurston County," the City of Lacey said in announcing the vacancies.

"These positions cannot be filled by an elected official of the appointing jurisdictions. The seven-member CAR-PFD Board has fiduciary responsibility for the appropriate use of sales tax revenue the CAR-PFD collects and distributes. The (board) meets annually (typically in the fall) to review financial statements and issue an annual report to the public on the use of those funds."

To apply, submit an application here. Vacancies are open until filled. A review of applications is scheduled to occur in mid-June. The appointments will be approved by each jurisdiction’s legislative body.

The CAR-PFD is a municipal corporation. It is a special taxing district created by the three cities and Thurston County in 2003.

The CAR-PFD finances payments on bonds that were issued by Lacey and Olympia for construction of two regional event centers: Lacey’s Regional Athletic Complex and Olympia’s Hands on Children’s Museum, the City of Lacey said.

The CAR-PFD receives 0.033% of the state share of sales and use tax generated in the four jurisdictions as allowed by RCW 82.14.390, in order to promote economic development by supporting the regional event centers.
