Public hearing tomorrow on Tumwater’s property tax levy

Posted

TUMWATER -- The city wants to pass a special ordinance that will allow it to increase next year’s property tax levy slightly above normal levels. A “Declaration of Substantial Need” would allow it to tax property owners at 1 percent rather than .602 percent. Passage of this ordinance would add about $38,400 to city coffers next year.  The city is asking for this special ordinance in order to fund its core government services.

The public hearing will be held during Tumwater’s City Council meeting tomorrow. Also on the agenda is a discussion of a green power agreement with Puget Sound Energy. Tumwater will be buying wind power from the Skookumchuk Wind Project, which is scheduled to start operating in November.

The Tumwater City Council meeting begins at 7 pm tomorrow, Tuesday, Oct. 20.
