A new fixture now stands at the regional athletic complex, etching the City of Lacey’s past into public memory.
Unveiled on Saturday, March 8, after a ribbon-cutting ceremony, the history kiosk stitches together the city’s “fascinating stories and historical insights.”
City officials attended the event, which was also open to all residents and history advocates.
According to the City of Lacey, the newly installed legacy displays are a joint effort between the Thurston County Historical Commission and Lacey Historical Commission.
The displays share the rise of the city, the past of the Evergreen Ballroom, and the military imprint of Joint Base Lewis-McChord.
The history markers also tell the story of the Nisqually Tribe and the shifting waters of the Nisqually Delta.
Saint Martin’s University, one of the region’s longstanding educational institutions, also finds its place in the display.
The city shared that the kiosk keeps history at eye level with every passerby. People who come for the courts or fields can now “explore the history that makes City of Lacey’s community unique.”
