Robert (Bob) Paul Longhorn, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away on April 12, 2025, in Olympia, Washington. He was born on October 3, 1957, in Dumas, Texas, and spent his life in various places, including Dallas and Pendleton, Oregon. Bob was renowned for his sharp intellect, compassionate spirit, and remarkable sense of humor, which endeared him to everyone he met.
He is survived by his devoted Wife, Kerry (Karen) Maloy-Longhorn, whom he married on August 26, 1989, in Olympia Washington.. He is also survived by son, Nathan Longhorn, and life partner, Christina Ragona, along with their cherished grandson, Paxton, who brought immense joy to Bob's life. Additionally, he leaves behind his sister, Wendy Hopfer (Ed), and their daughter, Ari, and his brother Martin Longhorn (Penny). He was preceded in death by his father, Carl Longhorn; his mother, Margaret Vornholt; and his biological father, Durl Shrum.
A graduate of Pendleton High School, class of 1975, Bob furthered his education at Blue Mountain Community College and dedicated his career to public service. He retired in 2015 after serving as a Medical Contracts Manager for the Washington State Healthcare Authority and as an Editorial Assistant at the Washington State Office of the Code Revisers. His meticulous attention to detail and collaboration was evident in every task he undertook, earning him respect among his colleagues.
Bob was a man of many talents and interests. He embraced music from a young age, playing the guitar since he was 13 years old continuing that passion the rest of his life. His creativity flourished through his skilled song writing and his passion for the written word. In his later years, he became a dedicated Buddhist practitioner, deeply valuing the principles of compassion and mindfulness. (No coming, No going)
Bob’s love for friends and family was often expressed in his cooking for loved ones, he enjoyed of gardening, and the many camping and traveling adventures shared with family and friends. Additionally, he found joy in solving crossword puzzles and mind games, which became a part of his daily routine.
A private family ceremony will be held at LienHoa Temple on May 16, 2025, followed by a gathering at Pig Bar and South Bay BBQ at 6 PM, located at 619 Legion Way SE, Olympia, Washington.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Virginia Mason Franciscan Health Transplant Center of Seattle, Washington, or the Plum Village organization, or World Central Kitchen.
Bob touched the lives of many with his wit, kindness, and creative spirit. His legacy of love and laughter will continue to live on in the hearts of his family and all who were fortunate to know him.
