Saint Martin’s University launches new graduation guarantee program

SMU also earns College of Distinction honor

Saint Martin’s University in Lacey recently has launched a four-year graduation guarantee program for select, high-demand majors.

The program was launched around the same time the university was named as a 2025–26 College of Distinction, Saint Martin's announced in a news release on July 30. 

The guarantee, available to first-year students pursuing degrees in engineering, nursing and business administration, ensures students can earn their degrees on time or receive the necessary support to complete them at no additional cost.  

“Students and their families want a clear, dependable path to graduation, and that’s exactly what our Four-Year Graduation Guarantee delivers,” said interim Provost David Olwell, Ph.D., in a statement including in the news release. 

“This program provides students in high-demand fields who follow the specified path with structure, support and peace of mind — while reinforcing our mission to help them thrive academically and professionally,” Olwell added. 

The program outlines a straightforward path to graduation in eight semesters through a personalized academic plan, consistent advising and clear expectations.  

Awards 

Saint Martin’s University also announced it earned multiple awards for the 2025-26 academic year from the national college guide, "Colleges of Distinction. "

“The College of Distinction awards recognize schools for excellence in key areas of undergraduate education: engaged students, great teaching, vibrant communities and successful outcomes. Unlike traditional ranking systems, these honors are based on a school’s ability to provide high-impact educational experiences and meaningful support throughout the college journey,” said the university in the news release.

The university has been named a 2025-26 College of Distinction for its overall excellence in undergraduate education and received badges in multiple categories. 

As a Catholic College of Distinction, the university was identified as an institution that hones both the minds and hearts of students for success, integrating opportunities to grow, serve and lead with compassion.    

The university was also recognized as a Washington College of Distinction, placing it as a top university in the state. 

A Career Development badge honored the university’s intentional focus on post-graduate opportunities and extensive assistance, preparing students for success after graduation.   

The university got a Military Support badge in recognition of comprehensive programs that support service members inside and outside the classroom. 

In recognition of hands-on business programs that produce experienced leaders for the corporate world, the university was awarded a Business badge. 

An Education badge honored the university’s programs on practical experiences, advising, high-impact practices and successful student outcomes for future educators.  

The university was also honored with an Engineering badge to recognize the program’s dynamic, experience-based undergraduate education for future engineers. 

A Nursing badge recognized the program’s hands-on learning to produce well-rounded, skilled future nurses. Saint Martin’s was also awarded a badge for being an Affordable College of Distinction.
