The Evergreen State College’s Shelton Promise Program Manager Monear Fatemi received the 2025 Brad Owen Excellence in Mentoring Award from MENTOR Washington.

The award honored Fatemi’s leadership on Shelton Promise, which provides college access support to high school students in the Shelton School District.

“I was honored to receive the 2025 Brad Owen Excellence in Mentoring Award from MENTOR Washington. It was a wonderful experience, and I’m grateful for the recognition,” said Fatemi in a statement.

According to the news release sent by Communications Liaison Mason Hadley, the program has been fully funded for another cohort due to recent legislative action, securing its status for the class of 2026.

Shelton Promise recently accepted more than 50 students into Evergreen and is launching a Shelton Promise Evergreen alumni network as mentors for incoming students.

A total of 75% of Cedar High School's senior class is also committed to attending Evergreen.

“The development of the alumni mentor network has been made possible in large part thanks to the efforts of Ellen Shortt Sanchez, whose dedication and guidance have been instrumental in laying the foundation for this growing initiative,” the news release stated.

The news release also stated the Shelton Promise program is a cornerstone of Evergreen’s commitment to equity, access and local community empowerment.
