Sheriff’s office warns against scammers claiming to be law enforcement

Posted

The Thurston County Sheriff’s Office (TCSO) has warned the public against scammers “posing as members of our office” to solicit money, often from vulnerable targets.

The TCSO said some scammers have been pretending to be from a law enforcement charity, while others solicit money with the promise of being able to avoid a court appearance or an arrest warrant.

The scammers target the elderly and other similarly vulnerable people, TCSO warned

“Please remember that we do not call or text you to collect any payments,” the TCSO said in a Facebook post.

“Our agency does not collect money to quash warrants, and we NEVER ask for payment in the form of gift cards or any unconventional method,” it added.

I don't understand why the elderly are automatically considered the main quarry of scammers. Stupidity is spread evenly across the generations.
