A convicted felon was arrested after a standoff with law enforcement authorities that stemmed from an alleged attempt to steal a tractor from a commercial business.
Thurston County Sheriff's Office deputies were dispatched on a report about a burglary in progress near Old Highway 99.
"A neighbor called to advise that an unknown suspect was inside of a shop and attempting to steal a tractor inside by ramming the doors open," said Sheriff Derek Sanders in a social media post on Friday morning, Oct. 31.
"When deputies arrived, they observed a commercial building with substantial damage, a cut open gate, and a white pickup truck fleeing the scene. A pursuit was initiated for burglary.
Chehalis Tribal Police successfully spiked the truck."
A sheriff's office sergeant then deployed a Grappler, which stopped the pursuit after 152 seconds.
The suspect, who was not identified, then left the scene on foot. That prompted a K-9 team to track the suspect, who opened fire on law enforcement authorities at one point.
"Units took cover and retreated to obtain their AR15s and set a perimeter as SWAT members responded," Sanders said.
The suspect was located a short time later in thick brush by Olympia Police Department K-9 Arco and his handler.
"I responded to their location and tried to negotiate with the suspect, however he made threats to shoot at us. When I asked him to drop the gun, he stated 'the only way I’m dropping this gun is after I pull the trigger,'" Sanders said.
"After approximately 30 minutes of building rapport and negotiating, the suspect surrendered peacefully. The firearm was located in the trash can of a house nearby."
An investigation into the incident found that the pickup truck was stolen during the burglary and thousands of dollars in damage was done to the commercial building.
"It appears the suspect was attempting to steal power equipment and tractors along with the truck," Sanders said.
The suspect is a six-time convicted felon for crimes ranging from dealing methamphetamine to eluding police. He also has 13 misdemeanor convictions on his record.
He faces a number of charges stemming from the incident, including theft of motor vehicle, first-degree theft, first-degree burglary, attempt to elude purusing police vehicle and aiming or discharging firearm.

Great work TCSO, working as a team with other resources to nab this dangerous armed felon:
It starts with a neighbor.
Chehalis Tribe enforcement successfully threw the spike at the felon's truck.
TSCO then deployed the Grapler.
The K-9 team found the runway felon.
Successful negotiation with the armed felon .
Great teamwork!!

I don't know why they post these happenings in our community TC courts are just going to release these career criminals back into our communities as they commit more crimes in our community until the city gets sued for the courts practices.
