The National Weather Service (NWS issued an Air Quality Alert (AQA) today due to particulate matter that’s due to arrive in Thurston County this weekend.

“Particulate matter (PM2.5) may fluctuate between Moderate and Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups levels in Kitsap, Mason, and Thurston Counties,” on Saturday and Sunday, according to the Olympic Region Clean Air Agency (ORCAA) today.

The Washington Smoke Blog shows various maps that identify communities likely to be affected by wildfire smoke. It shows Thurston County areas as “Moderate” on Sunday but “Good” on Saturday and Monday. The site identifies itself as a partnership between state, county, and federal agencies, and Tribes

Multiple sources report that health experts recommend wearing N95 masks outdoors to filter out smoke particles.

Burn bans in effect

No land-clearing burning or residential yard-waste burning or recreational fires are allowed at this time, according to ORCAA
